WASHINGTON, April 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- According to a national survey released today, one in three (33%) American adults report boycotting; and one in four (27%) report "buycotting," a product or service in the past 12 months because of the social or political values of the company that provides it.

The national telephone survey, which was conducted April 8-11, 2010 by StrategyOne, explores the social attitudes and behaviors of more than 1,000 American adults. The survey finds younger Americans, Liberals and West Coast consumers to be the most likely segments to consistently vote with their wallets by engaging in values-based consumption.

The survey asked whether or not respondents had, in the past 12 months, bought a certain product or service because they liked the social or political values of the company that provides it ("buycotting"). Conversely, respondents were also asked if they had decided NOT to buy a certain product or service because they disagreed with the social or political values of a company (boycotting). Similar research was conducted in January, 2010, by the Pew Research Center.(1)

Respondents also indicated which company or companies they had decided to buy, or NOT buy, products or services from as a result of their social or political values.

Generational Divide:

While there is a greater prevalence of boycotting than "buycotting" across all generations, younger Americans (age 18-34) are the most likely to do both. Forty percent of younger Americans surveyed said they had boycotted, and 36% had "buycotted" a product or service in the past 12 months based on social or political values. Older generations are significantly less likely to report boycotting and "buycotting;" age 35-44 (33% and 24% respectively), age 45- 54 (31% and 26%), age 55-64 (34% and 25%), and age 65 (26% and 18%).

Party Affiliation, 2008 Vote and Ideology:In comparing levels of politicized consumerism between Democrats and Republicans, the survey finds that while both parties are equally likely to boycott a service or product because of conflicting social or political values (35% and 34% respectively), there is a greater tendency for Democrats to report "buycotting" behaviors than Republicans (31% and 23%). The survey also finds that while liberals boycott and "buycott" at about the same level, conservatives are much Christian Louboutin Replica Shoes more likely to boycott products or services than to "buycott" them. BIRTHDAY celebrations were made all the more special for a 91-year-old when she learned that a road in Stamford will be named after her late brother.

Beryl Godsland, of Doughty Street, Stamford, celebrated her big day yesterday.

She had just heard the news that a street will be named after her brother Jack Audas who died during the Second World War. He was on board HMS Hermes which was sunk in a Japanese air attack in the Indian Ocean.

And she says having her brother honoured with a road name was the perfect present.

Beryl said: "I'm so proud. It's lovely to think that the Audas name will live on in the town.

"Jack would be 89 if he was alive here today and I can't think of a nicer way to remember him."

Beryl is one of five daughters from a family of eight. She has lived in Stamford all her life and can remember delivering the Mercury with her brother more than 80 years ago.

She said: "Jack would do his paper round before school. He used to go to the old Bluecoats school in St Peter's Street and I would help him. We both used Miu Shoes to enter the competitions in the paper as well."

Her daughter Jackie Joyce, who also lives in Stamford, was named after Jack.

Beryl said: "I asked my father if I could name her in Jack's memory, so we named her Jacqueline but everyone knows her as Jackie."

The Mercury reported last week that nine new roads at a development between Belvoir Close and Little Casterton Road were set to be named after just one of the six Stamford men Bell Ross Watches who died during the war.

But after town councillor Roy Footitt (Ind) met South Kesteven District Council officials it was agreed that four of the men would be honoured with a street name.

The names being used are Winterton, Clapton, Burgess and Audas.

Green was ruled out because of other Green road names in the area and Titman was not chosen because of fears the sign would be vandalised.

Coun Footitt said: "I'm pleased that a successful conclusion has been found. I'm proud these soldiers are having the names as a tribute to them.

"They fought for me and I was proud to have fought for them."
